Unfortunately car accidents don't happen in slow motion.Nicholas Springer
The two words that need to be addressed in any possible insurance claim are "Sudden and Accidental".
Insurance is for losses that occur both Suddenly AND Accidentally. If the loss was not caused by something that was either Sudden or accidental, it will probably not be covered under a normal homeowners or automobile insurance policy.
If a loss takes time to happen, i.e. a settling foundation or a slow water leak, the claim will generally be denied because the intention of most insurance policies is to cover sudden, accidental damage that is outside of the control of the insured.
A loss that is not accidental, in other words, intentional, is never covered. You cannot insure something that is going to have intentional damage. If you absolutely know it will happen, that is called "Pure Risk" and you just can't insure that.
